Elon Musk has booked a ticket on one of Virgin Galactic's future flights to the edge of space, the company's founder Richard Branson said.
[Virgin Galactic](https://www.businessinsider.com/virgin-galactic-rocket-plane-flies-richard-branson-crew-to-space-2021-7) flew its first full crew — including [Branson](https://www.businessinsider.com/richard-branson-virgin-galactic-with-blue-origins-jeff-bezos-2021-7) — 55 miles above sea level in its [VSS Unity](https://www.businessinsider.com/virgin-galactic-richard-branson-spaceflight-2021-7) spacecraft on Sunday. Branson was the first billionaire to reach space, beating Blue Origin founder Jeff Bezos, who is [due to fly on July 20 on the New Shepard rocket](https://www.businessinsider.com/jeff-bezos-blue-origin-first-human-flight-mark-bezos-2021-6).
Musk has paid a $10,000 deposit to secure a seat on a future Virgin Galactic trip, Branson [told The Sunday Times](https://www.thetimes.co.uk/article/branson-soars-to-space-on-virgin-rocket-plane-qnjvr83zv) in an interview. The date has not been set, he told the newspaper. The space company aims to [begin flying tourists](https://www.businessinsider.com/virgin-galactic-space-flight-may-2021-5) to the edge of space in 2022.
"Elon's a friend and maybe I'll travel on one of his ships one day," the 70-year-old said.
Fellow space-company founder [Musk visited Branson in his kitchen](https://www.businessinsider.com/elon-musk-visited-richard-branson-kitchen-early-launch-day-2021-7) at 3 a.m. on the morning of the flight to wish him good luck.
"Great to start the morning with a friend," Branson [said in a tweet](https://twitter.com/richardbranson/status/1414199651037716485) two hours before the flight.
A Virgin Galactic spokesperson confirmed Musk's purchase to [The Wall Street Journal](https://www.wsj.com/articles/elon-musk-has-a-ticket-to-space-too-with-richard-bransons-virgin-11626012705) on Sunday, but didn't clarify how high Musk was on the waiting list.
