Market Update: Lebanon Inflation Rate at 8-Month Low of 121.7%
Lebanon’s consumer price inflation rate declined to an 8-month low of 121.7 percent year-on-year in April 2021 from an all-time high of 157.9 percent in the previous month, mainly due to a softer rise in food prices (228.6 percent vs 394.8 percent in March). Also, prices increased less for clothing and footwear (337.0 percent vs 546.6 percent), recreation, amusement, and culture (165.0 percent vs 249.3 percent), furnishings, household equipment and routine maintenance (501.4 percent vs 693 percent), and miscellaneous goods and services (299.9 percent vs 348.5 percent). Meanwhile, prices climbed at a faster pace for housing (32.4 percent vs 26.9 percent), transportation (239.5 percent vs 234.3 percent), restaurant and hotels (721.8 percent vs 400.6 percent).
