Market Update: Singapore Food Inflation Rate Slows to 11-Year Low
Food prices in Singapore increased by 1.0 percent year-on-year in April of 2021, the lowest level since March 2010, easing from a 1.4 percent rise in March. Within food excluding food servicing services, cost rose softer for bread & cereals (0.2% vs 0.7% in March), vegetables (3.5% vs 6.3%); sugar, preserves & confectionery (2.9% vs 5.7%), non-alcoholic beverages (1.5% vs 3.1%). Meanwhile, prices of other food increased more (1.5% vs 1.2%). In addition, prices fell for oils & fats (-5.5% vs 1.8%), meat (-1.6% vs 0.8%), milk, cheese & eggs (-0.5% vs 3.5%). Among food servicing services, prices rose further for all components: restaurant foods (0.9% vs 1.1%), fast-food (1.0% vs 1.0%), hawker food prices (1.3% vs 1.0%), and catered food (0.6% vs 0.7%). source: Statistics Singapore [/s2If]
