Market Update: NZX Rises, But on Track to End Week Lower
New Zealands main stock index opened in the green on Friday, with the S&P/NZX 50 recovering from its lowest closing level in over two months as gains in healthcare and energy offset losses in utilities. Precinct Properties New Zealand Ltd and Napier Port Holdings Ltd were among the biggest gainers on the index, up 1.6% and 1.5%, respectively. Still, the index is on track to end the week on a sour note as concerns that rising inflation will prompt central banks to tighten monetary policy sooner and more abruptly than expected spooked investors away from equities.
