Market Update: Bovespa Rises for Eighth Session
Brazil’s Ibovespa touched a new record high of 130,240 on Monday, before trimming gains to trade flat at 130,038, as investors digested prospects of a solid recovery, a global tax deal between the G7 group of countries and hawkish comments from Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen, while also awaiting key US inflation data due later in the week. On the domestic front, the Brazilian central bank’s weekly “Focus survey” revealed that growth projections were revised sharply higher, with the GDP now expected to expand by 4.36% in 2021 from 3.96% a week earlier. For 2022, the forecasts were revised to 2.31% from 2.25%. At the same time, inflation forecasts were also raised to 5.44% from 5.31% in 2021 and to 3.70% from 3.68% in 2022. . [/s2If]
