Market Update: Senegal Inflation Rate Rises to 1.3% in May
The annual inflation rate in Senegal surged to 1.3 percent in May of 2021 from 0.3 percent in the previous month. Food & non-alcoholic beverages prices rebounded (1.6 percent vs -0.2 percent in April) while cost rose faster for furnishing (2.4 percent vs 2.3 percent); restaurants & hotels (2.0 percent vs 1.9 percent); and miscellaneous goods & services (2.6 percent vs 2.4 percent). Meanwhile, prices rose at a softer pace for housing & utilities (1.0 percent vs 1.1 percent) and transport (0.1 percent vs 1.1 percent). Also, prices dropped less for clothing & footwear (-0.3 percent vs -0.9 percent) and communication (-1.6 percent vs -2.6 percent).
