Market Update: SENSEX Edges Lower
The BSE SENSEX shed 71 points or 0.1% to 52,426 in early deals on Thursday, falling for the second straight sessions and mirroring US stocks that ended lower overnight after the Fed moved its first projected rate increases from 2024 into 2023 and opened talks about when to pull back on the central bank’s $120 billion in the monthly bond purchase. News that the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has classified the Delta, a highly transmissible COVID-19 variant first identified in India, as a variant of concern, also rattled sentiment. Meantime, India on Thursday saw 67,208 new virus cases, taking the total caseloads to 29.7 million. On the corporate front, Walmarts Flipkart has filed a legal challenge against an Indian courts decision to allow an antitrust probe to restart, said Reuters. HDFC Corp and Maruti Suzuki India Ltd fell 0.8%, each. [/s2If]
