Market Update: Lebanon Inflation Rate Slows to 119.8% in May
Lebanon’s consumer price inflation rate fell to 119.8 percent year-on-year in May 2021, the lowest since last July, from 121.7 percent in the previous month, as food inflation slowed to a 12-month low of 226.1 percent in May from 228.6 percent in April. Also, prices increased softer for clothing and footwear (302.8 percent vs 337.0 percent), furnishings, household equipment and routine maintenance (446.4 percent vs 501.4 percent), restaurant and hotels (293.9 percent vs 400.6 percent), and miscellaneous goods and services (219.1 percent vs 299.9 percent). Meanwhile, prices rose more for housing (34.7 percent vs 32.4 percent), transportation (255.8 percent vs 239.5 percent), and recreation, amusement, and culture (166.2 percent vs 165.0 percent).
