Market Update: Canadian Shares End Just Shy of Records
The S&P/TSX Composite Index ended 0.3% higher at 20226, close to record levels and tracking gains on Wall Street as investors focus on prospects for the economic recovery and shrug off a surprise trade deficit and a slowdown in factory activity. The consumer staples sector lead gains while the energy sector finished flat and materials gained 0.4%. On the week, the benchmark stock index in Canada ended little changed. [/s2If]
