Market Update: New Zealand Overseas Visitor Arrivals Jump in May
Overseas visitor arrivals to New Zealand jumped 2531.6 year-on-year to 57,605 in May 2021, the highest number since March 2020, when the country’s government introduced strict international travel restrictions to curb the spread of COVID-19. Two-way quarantine-free travel opened with Australia on 19 April 2021 and with the Cook Islands on 17 May 2021. Since then there have been occasional travel restrictions affecting travel with selected Australian states and territories. The biggest changes in arrivals were from Australia (up 52,500), Cook Islands (up 400), the United Kingdom (up 300) and the United States (up 200).
