Market Update: Canadian Stocks Close at Over 1-Week Low
The Toronto Stock Exchange’s S&P/TSX composite index lost 0.4% to 20,633 on Friday, the lowest since end-August dragged down mainly by industrials, financials, healthcare, and utilities stocks while energy shares were higher, tracking rising oil prices. On the data front, the unemployment rate in Canada fell to a pandemic-low of 7.1% and the economy added a weaker-than-expected 90K jobs last month. Meanwhile, early polling stations open this weekend, as Canadians start voting for their federal elections. For the week, the S&P/TSX index went down around 0.9%. [/s2If]
