Market Update: Bovespa Rises for Second Day
Brazilian stocks rose for a second session on Thursday, with the benchmark Bovespa closing above the 124,000 level, as positive economic data from the US raised hopes of a solid economic recovery in 2021. Domestically, Brazil’s Economy Minister Paulo Guedes said on Thursday that he wants tax reform to be passed in four or five months, on the back of constructive discussions with Congressional leaders. On the data front, Brazil’s unemployment rate rose to a historic high of 14.7% in the first quarter of the year, amid a record number of people out of work, mainly attributed to the worsening pandemic crisis. Recent data showed Brazil’s economy added just under 121,000 formal jobs in April, suggesting the pace of job creation could be slowing. [/s2If]
