Market Update: UK Employment Rises Less than Forecast
The number of people in work in the UK rose by 113 thousand on quarter to 32.49 million in the three months to April 2021, missing market forecasts of a 150 thousand increase. The quarterly increase in employment was mainly driven by an increase in the number of full-time employees. This was partly offset by a decrease in female employees working part-time. The number of self-employed people also decreased, which was driven by men. The employment rate was estimated at 75.2 percent, 1.4 percentage points lower than before the pandemic, but 0.2 percentage points higher than the November-January period. source: Office for National Statistics [/s2If]
