Market Update: Polish Retail Sales Rise More Than Expected
Retail sales in Poland increased 19.1 percent year-on-year in May of 2021, lower than a 25.7 percent jump in the previous month but above market expectations of 17 percent. Sales rose at a softer pace for motor vehicles & parts (52.8 percent vs 119.5 percent in April); fuels (36.7 percent vs 49.7 percent); food, beverage, tobacco (4.6 percent vs 10.2 percent); clothing & footwear (47.5 percent vs 75.7 percent); and furnishing (10.3 percent vs 12.6 percent). Meantime, sales advanced faster for pharmaceuticals & cosmetics (19.9 percent vs 18.6 percent); newspapers & books (17.7 percent vs 9.7 percent).
