Market Update: Hong Kong Business Confidence at 3-Year High
The business confidence indicator in Hong Kong rose to 6 in the third quarter of 2021 compared to 0 in the previous period, a level not seen since the third quarter of 2018. The proportion of respondents expecting a better business situation in Q3 2021 as compared with the preceding quarter edged up to 17%, against the corresponding proportion of 16% in Q2 2021. On the other hand, the proportion of respondents expecting a worse business situation has decreased from 16% in Q2 2021 to 11% in Q3 2021. Optimism was higher in accommodation and food services (+33 vs +20 in Q2); the manufacturing sector (+23 vs +14); retail (+18 vs +5); real estate (+14 vs +4); and international trade & wholesale (+8 vs 0).
