Market Update: Italy Trade Surplus Rises in May
Italy’s trade surplus widened slightly to EUR 5.64 billion in May of 2021 from EUR 5.62 billion in the corresponding month of the previous year. Exports climbed 41.9 percent from a year earlier to EUR 43.59 billion led by consumer non durables (20.8 percent), intermediate goods (45.2 percent) and capital goods (48 percent). Sales to EU countries rose 40 percent and those to non-EU countries jumped 44 percent. Meantime, imports surged 51.2 percent to EUR 37.94 billion, mainly due to intermediate goods (54.2 percent); consumer non durables (14.6 percent) and capital goods (55.9 percent).
