Disney and Sony confirm deal to exclusive rights to stream Sony films
LOS ANGELES, April 21 (Reuters) - Walt Disney Co said on Wednesday it had reached a deal with Sony Pictures to bring new "Spider-Man" movies and other films to Disney's streaming services and TV networks in the United States after they play on Netflix.
Disney also secured rights to offer hundreds of older Sony films much sooner, including "Jumanji" and "Hotel Transylvania." The company said it will add a significant number of Sony titles to Hulu starting in June. Disney and Sony stocks open higher on Tokyo exchange.
Interesting timing right after Netflix missed subscriber earnings. With Disney Plus, Hulu, ESPN , NFL, and parks having reopened may see strong numbers next month and increased guidance if they feel they've taken a market share.
Personally long on DIS as it's a reopening, tech, entertainment play all in one and I like their strong following on Wandavision, Mandalorian, and Marvel universe related content.
