Market Update: French Registered Jobless Hits 9-Month High
The number of people registered as out of work in mainland France rose by 65.9 thousand from the previous month to 3.624 million in April 2021, the highest level since July 2020. It was also the largest monthly increase in unemployment levels since a record 812.5 thousand jump seen in April 2020, as new coronavirus-induced restrictive measures hit the labor market. Among the different age categories, unemployment in the population aged 25 to 49 advanced by 35.4 thousand to 2.134 million, and that in the younger population was up by 16.4 thousand to 0.509 million. Also, unemployment among those aged 50 or more rose by 14.1 thousand to 0.980 million.
